Tapak Cadangan, a multi-showcase exhibition for KLAF2017. It is the highlight of our exhibitions programme this KLAF2017 and is a curated survey of the diverse range and nature of practice of contemporary Malaysian architecture.
A showcase of 10 exemplary buildings of recent contemporary architecture, Ten Building explores the range and diverse spectrum of Malaysian architects and practices, from building scale, project programme and use, to the ideas and methods of execution. In a departure from the traditional presentation of completed buildings, the exhibition aims to show the process and progression of each project, from the first sketch and first instruction to the construction site, giving full view of the long design and development stages of realising an architectural project. With a focus on how buildings are conceived and formed, the idea is to describe the journey and complexity a project undergoes from initial contact to final completion.
The exhibition examines the potentialities of our City; reimagining, reconfiguring and recalibrating Kuala Lumpur through speculative visions, projections and interventions, ranging from the urban scale down to its minutest individual unit. These projections seek to entice further aspirations, ideas and fantasies, contradictory simplicities, rhetorical flair, complex desires and mechanical solutions. The representation, organization and utilization of the City is the subject of the exhibition which opens up to new perspectives and interpretations.
