Architecture & Interior Symbiosis:
A New Generation Of Luxury Hotel
As Co-Founder and CEO of Urban Resort Concepts (URC), Markus looks back at a luxury hospitality career spanning 25 years.
Following his German hospitality management degree, his formative professional years were spent in senior management positions at iconic luxury hotel properties across Europe, Asia, The United States and Africa, including The Dorchester, London; The Datai, Langkawi; Peninsula Group properties in Beijing and Chicago as well as GM and later Vice President roles at Oberoi Hotels and Resorts.
Borne out of the desire and conviction of creating a new generation of truly contextual and intuitive luxury hotels, Urban Resort Concepts was founded in 2004, launching its first flagship property in 2009 with the award-winning The PuLi Hotel and Spa, Shanghai.
Paying true homage to each location’s heritage in every aspect of its product, URC hotels are designed and run to represent an authentic yet contemporary interpretation of a destination’s “hostmanship”. Generosity, intuitiveness and an exclusively human and guest-centric focus create an environment in which to feel expected, in which to come first and one that affords intimate access to its locale.
Markus signs responsible for the general management of URC, including its business development, product concept and design development as well as all aspects of URC’s unique single property branding and communications.
Upcoming openings include The PuXuan Hotel and Spa, Beijing, featuring uninterrupted views across the Forbidden City in late 2017, The RuMa Hotel and Residences, Kuala Lumpur in mid 2018, located at the very heart of the Malaysian capital and designed as a luxury hotel and residential community unlike any in the region today as well as The PuShang Hotel and Spa, Xiamen, an ocean-front luxury resort overlooking the Straits of Taiwan and sure to set a new benchmark for luxury resort developments in China.
Additional properties are under development in the Maldives, Lombok, Jamaica and numerous resort locations across mainland China.
