Developing Sustainable Destinations
Mark Gurney is responsible for design and architecture at Unibail-Rodamco. Based in Paris, he oversees the refurbishment of a €40 billion portfolio and the design of a €8 billion development pipeline. Working with architects from around the world, Unibail-Rodamco is behind some of the most iconic commercial buildings and mixed use masterplans across Europe. The company’s target of reducing its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 has become one of the driving forces in the way in which Mark determines the design direction and selects the architectural practices to work with.
Mark has previously been responsible for design and architecture at some of the world’s most influential real estate development companies including Majid Al Futtaim Properties in Dubai where he was a member of the Corporate Executive Committee. There, he was responsible for architecture across the group and all regions. At ECE in Hamburg, Mark was responsible for design within an in-house architecture and construction department of 300 employees. Mark has completed buildings across the Middle East, Europe, China, Australia and Malaysia. He holds a Masters in Architecture from the University of Edinburgh and an MBA from IMD in Switzerland.
